Whether you heard about yoga from a friend who practices, it was recommended by your doctor, or you are just curious, the word Yoga can bring different images to everyone.

Do yogis (one who practices yoga) sit all day and chant or meditate? Do they contort their bodies in the the likeness of pretzels? Is yoga for the extremely fit? And what does Namaste mean really?

First and foremost, yoga can be practiced by anyone. Yoga originated in India, several thousand years ago. Some scholars have found evidence dating back five thousand years; it has stood the test of time.

There are many types of Yoga, but all share the same goal, to yug, or join, the mind, body and spirit. The most popular yoga in America is Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a physical path that seeks to harmonize body and mind through physical discipline, movement, stillness and breath.

See you on the mat and Namaste, (which actually means the inner light in me, honors the inner light in you.)
