Relaxation as Practice
In today’s modern world, we are hard on your backs. This is true even if we are active and have a devoted yoga practice. Prolonged sitting, especially in front of the computer or driving, has had a profound impact on our posture, neck, back and hips.
Because of this, many of us have developed tension, pain or lead to Repetitive Strain Injury, Sciatica, sciatic joint pain, lower back pain, sway back, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, pinched nerves, just to name a few.
Deep muscle tissues may have become locked, stiff and tense, creating what is known as the “wrong” strength in muscles. This wrong strength is the over rounding in the upper back and short tense muscles in the chest, as well as an a tendency for your head to fall forward.
The Mitra brings an added level of confidence as a teacher. Knowing the sensations of relief and ultimate relaxation has allowed me to fully trust and believe in the power of the Mitra. It increases body awareness, specifically pointing out each individuals areas of limitation. It guides the rest of the class by simply observing the movements and positions of the body while on the mitra. MAGICAL : )– Rebekah Fey, Yoga Instructor, Louisville, KY
Based on the teachings of Brigitte Longueville, in collaboration with Guy Hamaekers, The BackMitra, Mitra means “friend” in Sanskrit, was developed as an answer to reversing this deep stiffness and stress in the back, neck and hips. This new yoga prop works to create greater flexibility, lightness and proper alignment in one’s yoga practice and body.
